AZZURRI
Katsumi Kurata is the tremendously talented artist of the circles AZZURRI and PRODUCTION USAGIYA (sometimes teamed with partner Ryo Hitaka, another standout artist as well as an avid cosplayer). From high-speed silliness, to intense action, to thoughtful looks into
what makes a character tick, Kurata-san's work is delivered with a skillful line and engaging layouts. Her other doujinshi subjects include Samurai Troopers, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy VII, and most recently Gundam Seed, but Gundam Wing has been the bulk of her work the past few years.
In addition to doujinshi, she has produced a number of beautiful Gundam Wing items, including a clear file set (an A4-size file with B5-size color paper, featuring Duo), an A2-size full-color poster of Duo, and even underpants sporting art of cute li'l Duo! Duo was joined by the rest of the G-Boys on her 1999 calendar poster, each with a different reaction to having to pose in an adorable bunny costume--ranging from Duo's delight to Wufei's outrage...!
Her work's focus on Duo notwithstanding, Kurata-san is extra-fond of Wufei--and like Wufei, she has a distinctive tail in her
hair. She's a regular at Comiket, and has also sold at events such as Super Comic City. She and Hitaka-san were guests of honor at Shoujocon in East Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.A., in July 2001.

FIELD--has five gag manga shorts, from one to four pages each, featuring Heero, Relena, Duo, Wufei and Treize. After two Oonagi text stories, which total 14 pages and focus on Heero and Duo, comes the book's manga centerpiece: Kurata's 11-pager "Getaway," a contemplative look at the team-up of a still-not-quite-trusting Heero and Duo. A full-page illustration each of Heero and Zechs complete the book. ("Getaway" was later reprinted in the November 1995 issue of Comic Box Jr..)

Mad Max
by AZZURRI and S. FIELD
- B5 size (7 1/4 inches by 10 1/8 inches)
- 56 pages
- Printed 12/29/95
- Given an "A Rank" rating by Comic Box Jr.! Doctor J's galaxy-spanning shriek of shock when he discovers what a doujinshi is--and just what Heero is doing in so many of them--gets this book off to a riotous start, and Heero and Duo do their darndest to keep things that way in a three-part, 26-page Kurata manga chronicling an outrageous competition that stems from Heero's latest assignment: to sleep with Duo! Two Oonagi text stories on Heero and Duo include four full-page illustrations by an artist called Chamaru in their 19 pages, and a near-full-page illustration of Heero, Duo, Trowa, Quatre and Wufei by Chamaru joins a full-pager of Duo in rounding out this wonderfully silly book. (The manga three-parter, "Hottan / Chousen / Toppa" ["The Start / Challenge / Breakthrough"], was later reprinted in Fusion Product's Gundam Wing doujinshi anthology book Jiyuu No Tsubasa, Phase 1 ["Wings of Freedom, Phase 1"], ISBN 4-89393-179-2.)
