The Gundam Wing Doujinshi of PLAY DEAD

The winter '97 Comiket was the first doujinshi event I'd ever attended, and it was like going to another planet! Of all the wonders there and the hundreds of circles' tables I visited, circle PLAY DEAD's table stood out. Circle honcho Nagisa Ogami had a hell of a great Duo costume, and hyper-detailed doujinshi that were even better!

Back for the summer '98 Comiket, in the minutes before the opening chimes, I noticed outgoing Ogami-san chatting with the lengthening line that had formed for PLAY DEAD--and it struck me that if anyone was ever born to cosplay Duo, she was the one. Her books sold out swiftly, and people continued to line up just to buy overruns of the covers! (That's why I have no idea how many pages the last two books shown in this circle section have... ;^) )

But that, unfortunately, was that; under names such as DEAD KISS and KILLER QUEEN, the circle moved on to other subjects, including Final Fantasy VII and ONE PIECE. But its Gundam Wing output--usually featuring Heero and Duo--remains among the best of the genre.
