"So, Where Can I Get Gundam Wing Doujinshi?"
This is the question I'm asked most often! A write-up on where I've bought much of my collection is already at True Confessions of a Gundam Wing Addict. If you too are lucky enough to visit Japan and want to shop for doujinshi, there's a wonderful site with all the shopping info you'll need:
Maps, store information, a cross-reference list of which store carries what kind of items, good places in the area to eat, even Japanese phrases to help you get by--Aka Tombo has it all! Plus, the site is the creation of one of the nicest people in North American anime fandom. The ultimate in useful info!
For those not able to go to Japan for a first-hand doujinshi hunt, though, there are a few other options. The doujinshi available through these options tend to cost more than they do at a shop or event in Japan, but they're still a whole lot less expensive than a plane ticket...
This doujinshi search service is run by yours truly and my partner (she's contributed to MIND EDUCATION as "Simone Maxwell"), and we specialize in Gundam Wing doujinshi. Hey, almost every weekend I go out shopping for doujinshi goodies for us, so it's very easy for me to search for doujinshi for you, too!
In the past three years, the amount of doujinshi offered on this on-line auction site has ballooned from a few to several hundred at a time. It's hard to guess what price a doujinshi will bring; Gundam Wing doujinshi had sold in the $60-plus range before a flood of them brought prices sharply down, but those prices appear to be rebounding. To find them, search for "Gundam Wing" (try "Gundam W" and "Wing Gundam" too to be safe) and "doujinshi" (sometimes "dojinshi" and "fanzine"), and be sure to include the text of descriptions in your search.
While I haven't bought any doujinshi from the Aestheticism Cybershoppe yet, I know the supplier selects absolutely topnotch books for this ambitious U.S. site to sell, and Aestheticism has a lot of eager customers.
Before moving to Japan myself, I made large orders to this Japanese shop and was very happy with the results. The above link is to their English front page, but if you can read Japanese, be sure to see their alphabetical doujinshi index of current stock, including three pages of listings for Gundam Wing doujinshi. Great for doujinshi on J-Pop groups and hard-to-find doujinshi for older anime shows, too--the only place on-line where I've found "vintage" doujinshi for '80s anime series like Brygar, God Mars and Jushin Rygar (ah, my secret shames...)!
A.K.A. "Happy Hentai Home," this site has a wonderful section of cover scans and English-language descriptions of more than 400 Gundam Wing doujinshi! While many have been sold, friendly proprietor Toshi-san will alert you if he's able to find another copy of a book you missed out on. I was very, very happy with our transactions!
This shop primarily carries Gundam Wing and Weiss doujinshi. I haven't bought anything yet, but it looks nice, and I've heard good things.
Know of a site that sells Gundam Wing doujinshi (preferably one you've had a successful transaction with)? Let me know and I'll include it!
