From doujinshi to art for licensed character goods, Ken Mizuki's unique, delicate work has made her one of the best-known fan artists of the decade. Dedicated primarily to Samurai Troopers in the late '80s and early '90s--she also illustrated at least five commercially-produced shitajiki (pencil boards) for that series--Mizuki-san was among the first doujinshi artists to leap onto the Gundam Wing bandwagon in 1995. Her personal circle, Ypritto, has produced a large, lavish Gundam Wing calendar each year since--a wonderful showcase for her distinctive style and watercolor-and-airbrush palette--and her manga and illustrations have appeared in doujinshi by Ypritto, Nakayoshi Ribon (her circle with Kichirou Kasagi), Psyche (often teamed with Fumin, Midori Sasaya and Satomi Sayama), and books produced jointly with novelist Midori Sasaya. Meanwhile, Mizuki-san's professional Gundam Wing work includes the shitajiki shown above, produced commercially by Seika Note Co. Ltd. in December 1995.
